Energy, focus and vitality
Running on empty? Let’s find out why.
Constant tiredness, brain fog, low motivation and a fading sex drive are common in busy men, and they are rarely just about getting older. Sleep, stress, blood sugar, weight, nutrition, alcohol and hormones can all play a part. At Sandton Men’s Clinic, George Mulaudzi, Naturopath, looks at the whole picture in a private, unhurried consultation.
Quick answer
Ongoing tiredness in men is usually linked to several factors at once, such as poor or short sleep, chronic stress, blood sugar swings, excess weight, low iron or vitamin D, alcohol, low testosterone or sleep apnoea. A consultation looks at your history and lifestyle, suggests which tests to ask your doctor for, and builds a natural plan to rebuild energy.
What we mean by low energy and burnout
Most men feel tired after a hard week. It becomes worth looking into when tiredness lasts for weeks, does not lift with rest, or starts affecting your work, mood, relationships or sex life. Burnout is a state of physical and emotional exhaustion driven by long-term stress and overload, and it often shows up as poor sleep, irritability, low motivation and lower libido.
Fatigue is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The aim is to find what is driving it in your case, rather than covering it with caffeine or energy drinks.
Common signs men notice
Energy
Waking tired, needing caffeine to get going, an afternoon crash, or feeling flat most of the day.
Mind
Brain fog, poor focus, low motivation, irritability or feeling overwhelmed.
Body
Weight gain around the middle, aches, getting sick more often, or less strength at the gym.
Sexual
Lower sex drive, weaker erections or less interest in intimacy. See low libido.
What can cause ongoing fatigue?
Common drivers include short or broken sleep, untreated sleep apnoea, chronic stress and high cortisol, blood sugar problems and insulin resistance, excess weight, low iron, vitamin B12 or vitamin D, thyroid problems, heavy alcohol use, some medicines, depression and low testosterone.
Because these overlap, two men with the same symptoms can need very different plans. That is why we start with a full history rather than a one-size-fits-all supplement.

Frequently asked questions
Why am I always tired even after sleeping?
Common reasons include poor sleep quality (for example from sleep apnoea, alcohol or late screens), chronic stress, blood sugar swings, low iron, vitamin B12 or vitamin D, thyroid problems, depression or low testosterone. A consultation helps narrow down the likely causes and which tests to ask for.
Can low energy affect my sex life?
Yes. Fatigue, stress and poor sleep often lower sex drive and can make erections less reliable. Improving energy and sleep frequently helps libido too.
Do you do blood tests at the clinic?
No. We do not run blood tests in-house. We explain which tests are worth asking your doctor or a laboratory for and help you understand the results.
Is burnout something a naturopath can help with?
A naturopath can help with the lifestyle side of burnout, such as sleep, nutrition, stress and recovery. If symptoms suggest depression or another medical problem, we recommend seeing a doctor or psychologist as well.
